When you think of your typical potluck dinner macaroni salad and green bean casserole probably come to mind. However, Kristin Donnelly author of Modern Potluck: Beautiful Food to Share reinvents your typical potluck dish. She covers everything from dips and drinks to sweets. On p.16-17, I love that she gives a set of rules for potluck. Chapters include:
Snacks, Dips & Drinks
Main-Course Salads & Other Room-Temperature Main Dishes
Slow-Cooked & Served Hot
The 9×13 Pan: Casseroles & the Like
Supporting-Role Salads & Sides
Baked & Savory
Sweets
Condiments & Other Things in Jars
As with most cookbooks, I usually find at least a couple of must try recipes to add to my list. The Pig Candy on p. 24-25 is in the Snacks, Dips & Drinks chapter sounds amazing. She’s got several variations of the typical Deviled Eggs on p. 26-29 that look tasty. The Cornmeal-Crusted Oven-Fried Chicken on p. 78-79 sounds delicious, although I’m not one for cold chicken. the Strawberry Jam Cheesecake Bars on p. 190-191 have my mouth watering. I think most people would find this cookbook interesting and like me would find several recipes that could become their next favorites.
